Introduction to Mahjong Tiles

American Mahjong uses 166 tiles divided into several categories. Understanding each tile type is fundamental to playing the game. The main categories are: Suits (Dots, Bams, Craks), Honor Tiles (Winds, Dragons), Bonus Tiles (Flowers), and the unique American addition - Jokers.

Each suit has tiles numbered 1-9, with 4 copies of each tile. Honor tiles include 4 Winds and 3 Dragons, also with 4 copies each. There are 8 Flower tiles and 8 Joker tiles in the American version.
